FromSoftware’s first paid expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, was announced his year for consoles and PC. However, no gameplay, details or a launch date have been revealed thus far. However, parent company Kadokawa Corporation said development is “proceeding smoothly” last month, a statement echoed by producer Yasuhiro Kitao during the PlayStation Partner Awards 2023 in Japan.
As Game Watch reported (translation via DeepL), Kitao said it’s “still some way off, but we are making good progress. Like Bloodborne and other games, there will be new battles and characters. Please look forward to something new.” He also noted that the developer would talk about Shadow of the Erdtree at “another time.”
While this could mean the expansion won’t launch soon, it could arrive sometime in the next fiscal year. In its consolidated financial results, Kadokawa didn’t mention it in net sales forecasts for the fiscal year ending March 31st, 2024, with Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, instead putting it under “medium to long-term direction.”
It could mean a release from April 1st, 2024, onwards – the only question is when. Stay tuned for updates and hopefully, a new trailer at The Game Awards next week.
