Other than a short cutscene introducing a new character at E3 this year, Gears 5 hasn’t really shown much of its campaign since it was first unveiled. That, however, will be changing soon. Geoff Keighley recently took to Twitter to confirm that on August 19 at Gamescom Opening Night Live – the opening event of the gaming trade fair that will be hosted by him – Microsoft will be bringing an exclusive new look at the campaign for the shooter.

That, however, will be preceded by Microsoft showing off the “all-new” Horde mode in the game during an Inside Xbox episode, which should be interesting to see as well, in terms of how they’ve changed the mode for the upcoming sequel. With the campaign, I really hope some actual gameplay and show us some of the big new areas they’ve talked so much about over the last year. Something more than a cutscene, please.

Gears 5 is among many other titles that will be highlighted during Gamescom Opening Night Live. Over fifteen major publishers will be present in some capacity. These include Sega, who will be revealing a new AAA game, as well as Hideo Kojima, who will be showing something new from the upcoming Death Stranding. A Stadia Connect event is also scheduled for the same day.

Meanwhile, at Gamescom, Square Enix will be bringing playable demos of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Marvel’s Avengers, while Ubisoft’s lineup includes Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Watch Dogs Legion– though the latter won’t be playable for the attending public.
