Destiny 2’s The Dawning Slammed for Excessive Microtransactions

Numerous critics slam Bungie's practices while the official forums called for Eververse's removal.

Destiny 2 The Dawning 2017

Bungie’s Destiny 2 has been one series of misfortunes after another. After the lack of end-game, the shabby rewards for the raid, the terrible Curse of Osiris DLC and the XP throttling debacle, you would think there was nothing left to screw up. But alas, The Dawning – Destiny 2’s first seasonal event – has been bungled and it’s mostly due to most desirable content being locked behind Eververse, the game’s cash shop.

Aside from the game’s sub-Reddit hating on the event vociferously, hardcore Destiny player Datto has also called out Bungie for its stingy practices and the lack of content in the event compared to last year. One of the main criticisms is that Dawning shaders received for free don’t give Bright Dust while those obtained from Eververse do but the latter only gives seven Bright Dust when broken down. Bungie was so concerned about players getting seven free Bright Dust that it specifically coded this to prevent it from happening.

Jim Sterling also chimed in on the disastrous handling of the event, noting that it’s taken Destiny 2 from being one of the better launches of this year to one of the “sh**iest” games of 2017. Sterling similarly called out Bungie’s treatment of fans over the past few months and how it’s stuffed some of the best items into the Eververse store.

If that weren’t enough, the official Bungie forums have been calling for the outright removal of Eververse as it becomes stocked with more and more items that should be obtainable in-game (and no, we don’t mean through a random loot box system).

What are your thoughts on Bungie’s latest debacle? Let us know in the comments. Meanwhile, Divinity: Original Sin 2 has been discounted on Steam so why not check that out instead?
