Destiny 2 Season 3 Update Will Tune PvE Difficulty, Alter Enemy Shields

Bungie will be increasing the effectiveness of higher Power enemies in Season 3 patch.

Destiny 2 Warmind

Bungie’s Destiny 2 will receive its next big DLC Warmind on May 8th. However, as that date marks the start of Season 3, there will be updates to the overall sandbox and gameplay to go with it. One such change is a PvE difficulty tuning pass revealed in the latest weekly update blog post.

Combatants Design Lead Tomonori Kinoshita talks about the tuning pass and how it’s meant to make acquiring Power levels more meaningful, provide a challenge experience at higher level activities and thus reinforce matching energy damage with the corresponding enemy shield. First off is the fact that outgoing/incoming damage scaling will be increased from 40 Power levels to 50 Power levels.

This means that enemies will be tougher and deal more damage to players if the latter is of lower Power level. If an enemy is over 50 Power levels higher, it will have a “??” symbol and be immune to all damage. However, if you are 50 Power levels higher, than enemies will go down even more easily than before. What happens when facing raid enemies that have Power levels which aren’t 50 levels apart? How will this work with the recent PvE damage changes? Bungie has yet to clarify its stance on those.

Meanwhile, combatant energy shields will also change. If you match an Energy weapon’s element to an enemy’s shield, the damage will be three times more followed by shield damage. Non-matching energy damage will deal roughly twice as much damage while Kinetic damage doesn’t get a multiplier.

To make things more enticing, matching the right element is not affected by the scaling of Power level (unless they’re over 50 Power levels stronger). As a result, Match Game – which cycle the element that enemies’ shields are weak to – will be coming back as a Prestige Nightfall modifier. Non-matching damage is reduced by 10 percent.
