Destiny 2 Introducing “Prismatic Matrix” To Refine Its Lootbox System

Though it really doesn't seem like much of an improvement...

Destiny 2 has come under a lot of fire from fans and critics alike for a number of reasons, not least because of its lootboxes and microtransactions. And while the very nature of microtransactions in any game makes them inherently susceptible to criticism, in Destiny 2 they have been particularly grating, because of how often they lead to unlocking of duplicate items.

Bungie has made promises in the past to work on this issue, and with the upcoming Season 3 and its inclusion of the Prismatic Matrix into the game, they seem to be delivering on that promise. “The Prismatic Matrix will feature 10 Eververse items from Season 3 each week it is active,” the developers says on its official page. “Each item within the Prismatic Matrix is on a knockout list, which means every player is guaranteed to receive all featured items for a given week by the tenth activation. Earning items via Bright Engrams, Bright Dust, or previous Matrix activations will also knock rewards off the list. In turn, each activation guarantees players an item that they have never previously acquired.”

Well, definitely seems like an improvement, right? But there is a catch. Because in the game, the Prismatic Matrix can only be activated by using Prismatic Facets, and you can only get one of these through gameplay every week. If you want more, you need to purchase is for 200 Silvers (which amounts to $2). So while within a week the Matrix provides a way that you don’t end up with any duplicate items, if you don’t want to spend any money, that also means you can only use the Matrix once every week.

Essentially meaning that this is only an improvement if you’re willing to spend more money on the game’s microtransactions- that said, I guess it is an improvement. What’s your take on this? Tell us in your comments below.
