Destiny 2 Forsaken’s Raid Won’t Have Prestige Difficulty

Bungie focused on creating "one definitive version" of Last Wish from the beginning.

Destiny 2 Forsaken raid

If you’ve been messing around with the wish mechanics in Destiny 2: Forsaken’s Last Wish raid, then you’ll have probably gotten quite a bit of mileage out of it. The 13th wish, for instance, activates a “no death” run, where players can earn a special emblem (but are booted back to orbit if anyone dies during the raid). What’s next? Well, not a Prestige difficulty.

According to Bungie in its recent weekly update, the Last Wish will not have multiple difficulties like previous raids and raid lairs. “All year long, we’ve been working behind the scenes to reinvent the way a story campaign feeds into a lasting hobby,” the developer wrote in the update. “We set out to change everything from the way you collect gear to the way you tackle the endgame. With the goals to create a more varied and rewarding experience across the endgame of Destiny laid out before us, we had to make a series of difficult choices.

“One of these choices was that we would not be creating multiple difficulties of Last Wish. Instead, Forsaken would focus on making sure the single difficulty mode of Last Wish was highly rewarding and that there were plenty of unique activities to participate in for great rewards across the entire endgame.

“Once this decision was made, we focused on creating one definitive version of Last Wish with no qualifiers attached to it. We wanted to create an experience that offered the truest forms of every encounter from day one, and offered some of the most powerful rewards in the game to anyone who could succeed.”

This isn’t an unreasonable take, considering how well-rounded and complex the mechanics of the raid are, not to mention other end-game activities like The Shattered Throne. While hardcore raiders may bemoan the lack of a tougher difficulty to cut their teeth on, having only one difficulty does mean that players won’t be gimped on Power level. That is, until the next raid lair arrives with Black Armory in December.
