Destiny 2: Bungie Addresses PvE Concerns In Beta

Beta build is actually several months old; long-standing issues have been fixed.

Since Destiny 2 players have had access to the early beta on July 18th, thanks to the magic of pre-orders, many concerns have been cropping up about it. While the general vibe of PvP has been praised, many have expressed annoyance over the reduced charge rate for abilities and Supers (along with their general lacklustre power).

The lacking Power Ammo, which is used for weapons like Fusion Rifles, Shotguns and Sniper Rifles in addition to Rocket Launchers and Grenade Launchers, also wasn’t received favourably. When you combine these aspects with the PvE, you get enemies that don’t die in one hit to grenades, Sniper Rifles doing meager damage, a more gun-heavy approach to killing enemies as opposed to going crazy with Supers and so on. Thankfully, Bungie is aware of these issues.

In fact in its latest weekly update, Destiny 2 Beta Design Lead Rob Engeln talked about how the beta build is actually several months old and many issues that players are facing now have already been ironed out. “The PVE game tuning has changed pretty significantly since the Beta build was deployed. The nature of a Beta of this scale requires that it’s based off a build of the game that is now months old.

“So, in many cases, your feedback is helping us validate changes that were previously made based on internal feedback and playtesting. For example, we too felt that ammo (especially power ammo) was too scarce in PvE. In addition to retuning the drop rates, we built a system that guarantees power ammo drops for you and your Fireteam from certain enemies, giving power weapons a more reliable and predictable role in your arsenal. Other areas where we’ve made significant tuning changes include grenade effectiveness in PvE, Boss vitality, and weapon damage against non-player combatants.”

Destiny 2’s beta will be open today for all players on PS4 and Xbox One while the full game arrives on September 6th for consoles.
